Our idea for this campaign was to have a simple piano theme which would become synonymous with The Sunday Times. The sheer variety of people and advertisements that the music would accompany meant that the track couldn’t be too down or too uplifting, so it was important to create a track which still left the viewer with a positive feel. When this piano version was complete, we then recorded different arrangements of the track, each with the main melody but using different instrumentations and styles.
We hired an indie band to record a version for the Britpop spots. A marimba and piano version created a nice light-hearted feel for the children’s sections. And finally we collaborated with some leading DJ’s to create a hip-hop remix of the track for the more youth-orientated spots aimed at the teen/young adult demographic. The campaign is currently being broadcast in the UK & Ireland on TV and radio.
